Embroidery Hoop- Laundry Hamper

My son is pretty good at keeping his room clean, however despite having the laundry hamper right outside his bedroom he leaves his dirty clothes all over his room and bathroom floor after he showers.  He tends to be forgetful!

So my solution was to create hanging hamper for his room.  I was inspired by this idea on Martha Stewart’s website.  I didn't have a pillowcase available, but I did have over a yard of fabric I received from Online Fabric Store in our Haven Conference- swag bags.  I started by staining my embroidery hoop; not a necessary step, I just wanted mine darker. Then with my fabric a sewed a very simple pillowcase then folded the fabric around the embroidery hoop. I wrapped some twine around the hardware to create a loop for hanging.

A simple solution without taking up any floor space.

And now there are no more clothes on the floor!  I wonder why I didn't think of this solution sooner.

  1. That is perfect, Brandi! I love this idea for a boy's room. They just love to 'shoot hoops'! I really like the fabric, too. Hope the beginning of your week is happy! xo

  3. Good Evening Brandi, What a fabulous idea, I wish I had known about this brilliant laundry bag when my two girls were teenagers. For some reason or another, they boycotted the laundry bin and they always used to leave a trail of clothes around their rooms. Your laundry bag would have solved the problem. I am going to pass this idea onto my niece who has a teenage son. Fingers crossed it makes him a little tidier.

  14. This looks amazing. I so wish I was crafty. I purchased a rolling hamper for our laundry room and it already broke because the kids were riding in it. I now need a new solution. I MAY give this a whirl. I probably need something that isn't on the floor.

  19. Great idea, Brandi. My grandson is good about picking his clothes up after a shower BUT when he changes out of his school uniform in the afternoon, on the floor it goes and there it stays. I have a feeling I am going to be making one of these!

I am currently researching ideas to design and make my own comforter set! I am also going to repaint my bed frame( headboard and foot board). So to make a long story short, thanks for the extra push and YOU GO GIRL!

  31. Such a great idea Brandi! My son is just a little older than yours so his clothes are bigger and not many would fit in there anymore:( but this is so adorable for a younger child!
Thanks for sharing this easy easy project with us! Pinning it now on to my kids spaces board...

  32. Now I know that this actually works. Lovely hamper. It's nice to create your own for things like this because you can color coordinate without paying an arm and a leg for it.

  35. What an amazing idea... You can make a laundry hamper to fit any decor! Quick question... do you take the whole thing to the laundry room or unscrew the embroidery hoop?

  36. I love this idea. For them is just like playing basket, I guess that's what motivates them to use it, so ingenious!
