Tree Stump Table

When we had a few dead trees cut down in our yard last year, I saved some of the stumps to decorate with.  I used a couple stumps to spruce up our fall porch, then decided to turn one of the stumps into a side table.

The process was pretty simple!  Using my Dremel, I sanded the top and bottom of the stump smooth.

Next, using my paint roller I gave the stump multiple coats of stain.  Allowing each coat to dry before applying the next.  I left the bottom of the stump untouched, since it would be on the floor.

I left the stump in the garage for a few days to dry.

Once the stump was dry I gave it a couple coats of clear enamel to protect it from scratches and spills.

I love the rustic-natural look of the stump table!

It's perfect for a small plant,

or a spot to set a drink and a snack while we're watching TV.

Best of all, it was rather inexpensive to pull the whole thing together and my kids think I'm pretty cool for bringing the outside in!

*ETA- In order for this project to work you need to allow your stump to dry completely.  Our stump sat outside to dry for many months on a covered porch, to protect it from the elements.  Be sure to elevate your stump off the ground while drying to prevent mold.

  16. You need your own tv program! You have the most amazing creative eye. Its perfect!!!

Coming from an old wood worker, I too loved fallen trees. It does take a log a few years to totally dry. I would advise you to put some sort of nail-in plastic casters on the bottom of that stump to get it up off the floor. You need to keep some air circulating under that stump. There is still some moisture in the stump and it could effect your wood flooring. You can get those at the hardware store. They are about 1/4 thick and are the size of a quarter and come in various colors, they are smooth and will not scratch the floor. I know caster is not the name for it, but its all I can think of at the moment. You can see them on the bottom of chair legs, some are metal but you want the acrylic ones.

I love your creative eye!! GOD sure blessed you and I checked out your Fall porch. WOW!!! Like I said, HGTV needs YOU!!! Or, you need your own craft shop to sell your creations.

GOD bless you this Easter week.

  27. This turned out so well! I've had my eye on a stump table for a while now, but I don't have a backyard so for now it's just a dream. I really like the dark stain you chose too. It makes it look more like a finished piece of furniture. I love it!

  39. Excellent! I found you on Roadkill Rescue and was completely drawn to your project because I too have a stump I've been wanting to do a project with. I was thinking about hollowing out part of it to set a plant in, BUT I'm really loving how yours turned out with the stain. I may have to do that instead. Thanks so much!

I'd love if you shared this at my Show & Tell party this week. http://www.gingerlymade.com/2013/04/show-tell-21-link-party.html
