Kitchen Table Makeover

A few weeks ago, my aunt received a small round table from a friend to replace the large rectangle table she had in her kitchen.  The table had a few dings and dents, but otherwise was in great condition.  My aunt knew she wanted to give her "new" table a makeover, but she was unsure how to do it.  She called me for a little advice and I suggested spray painting it.

We went back and forth deciding on colors, in the end we chose Krylon's Brick for the table top and Almond for the base.

This was my first time painting such a large piece of furniture, so I went online for a little help.  I found the steps listed on Young House Love's site to be the most helpful.  We started by lightly sanding the table.  Then after wiping the table and chairs down with a dry cloth, we primed each piece with a spray primer.  We waited for everything to dry completely before we spray painted each piece. The chairs received 3 coats while the table and base needed two.  To protect the table top I coated it with a clear protective finish.

Spray painting the furniture proved to be fast and easy, but be careful of drips.  We had a few here and there, but they can be easily fixed by sanding them smooth and re-spraying.

The table and chairs are so much nicer now.  The colors work well together in her bright kitchen.  Best of all my aunt loves it and I enjoyed helping her!

Round kitchen table makeovers are definitely a hot topic at the moment! I love that you did two-tones! I thought about doing that with mine, but I thought it would have been too much since my cabinets are already two-toned!

Thanks for stopping by today:)

I never thought of spray painting. Great idea! We are moving soon and this idea might just help in the sun room (Carolina Room). Hmmmm....you got me thinking.

Nice job, Brandi! I love how the table color picks up colors from curtains and compliments the color of her walls. I'm sure your aunt smiles and thinks of you every time she walks in her kitchen. : )

Hi again,
I just read your post on your blog title, what a beautiful tribute to your mom and uncle.
I also wanted to thank you for sharing the song, it brought tears and joy as my mind was flooded with memories. I definitely found my groove and start rockin! lol I needed that as this has not been a good week for me.

I lost my mom on February 24,2000 and my oldest brother on January 15, 2009!
Have a lovely day and thanks again for the moment in time. : )

Isn't it amazing how a little spray paint can fix almost anything? :). What a huge improvement, I really like the two tones.

Love it! Did you seal it with anything or is the spray paint hard enough to take the beating a kitchen table sometimes gets?

I love what you've done with it! It has so much interest now. My kitchen table is very similar and I've been thinking about painting it for a while now, maybe this will give me the inspiration I need to actually do it!
