Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!  Today I am sharing with you pictures from my family's visit to The King Center, located here in Atlanta- a beautiful testament to Dr. King's work and life.

While visiting the King Center, my children were given the opportunity to have their picture taken with Dr. King's eldest and only living sibling, Christine King Farris.  It was a  moment I hope they cherish forever!

As my family and I walked through The King Center, I became emotional as I wondered what it would feel like to be so selfless that you would give your life to fight for racial equality.  Thank-you Dr. King...

  2. Wonderful. I need to make sure and visit next time I'm in Atlanta. I find something similar happens when I visit memorials and monuments. It doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes when I stop and think about selfless actions of people, I have to get out the tissues.

  8. I grew down the street from the king center AND the home Dr. King grew up in!! After school (I went to John Hope), my sister and I would head over to the king center and go inside the library and even play in the gym that was there. I have not been there since elementary school so I have no idea about whats inside the King Center now. I was also in one of the king parades and held the flag for the king service at Ebeneezer Baptist Church. I think its time to take my boys there!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

  9. thats really pretty neat. how odd is it that by the time our kids are grown the civil rights leaders will be gone? there will be no one to share in the oral history. sad.

i heard MLK jr's son speak about 15 years ago and it moved me then. i can only imagine how proud you felt to visit that center!
