My Bedroom

 My bedroom is rather small, perhaps too small for my large bed which takes up most of the room.

My husband and I love this picture.  It reminds us of a street we once lived on.

The TV is on the opposite wall underneath a pair of pictures I purchased at Home Goods.

I purchased the rug from Hobby Lobby.  On sale, of course!

The lamp was originally brass.  I spray painted it and purchased a shade from Target to match.

A storage cube purchased from Sam's Club doubles as a night stand.

The Seagrass chair was the perfect accessory for my small room.

A small basket for magazines also holds extra pillows.

Tea Cup Exchange

D-I-Y Headboard

My bedroom is finally coming together.  Once the new bedding arrived I decided our current headboard would no longer work in the room.  So I set out to create my own.  My inspiration for the headboard came from a recent overnight stay at a hotel!

 To construct my headboard, I purchased molding from Home Depot and had it cut to size.  I have a Cal-King bed so I used two, 47 inch pieces for the sides and one, 71 inch piece for the top.

  I used our old television box as the base for the headboard.

 I covered the box with snow blankets, purchased on clearance from Joann's after the holiday.
 

 I stapled the snow blanket to the box  before I covered it with burlap. Once the burlap was centered I flipped the box over and stapled the burlap to the back side of the box.

After staining the molding, I attached it to the frame using liquid nails.  I allowed it to dry overnight before I moved it to my bedroom.

Here it is in the room.  The almost finished room!  I'll be back soon to show you the entire room, until then take care my friends!

*ETA- The TV box is very sturdy!  One year later and it's held up great!

Dining Room Chairs

  We moved into our home June 2008 after renting for years.  Once we moved in, I became very anxious to make changes that best suit my our taste.  The inside of the entire house was painted the color as seen in the picture below.

After living with the color for some time, my husband and I decided to make some changes.  So we gave the dining room a new look.

Once we changed the wall color it was time to update the dining room chairs.  I really don't know what I was thinking with those microfiber chairs.  It's amazing how my taste has evolved! LOL
 

I purchased fabric online to recover the chairs.  I really like the chevron pattern, but I was nervous about the print being too bold for the room.  I took a risk and I couldn't be more pleased!

To cover the chairs, I cut the fabric to size and used my staple gun to attach it to the existing cushion.

Shortcut Bulgogi

  Many years ago my husband was stationed in Korea while serving in the Army.   While there he experienced a new culture and discovered some of the best foods of his life.  Bulgogi is a Korean dish that usually consists of marinated barbecued beef.  Traditional bulgogi sauce is made with garlic, sugar, sesame oil and soy sauce. Other recipes for bulgogi sauce may use ingredients like Asian pears, rice wine, kiwi’s, honey and soy bean paste.  To save time we buy the stuff in the jar! 

Ingredients

2 lbs boneless rib eye steaks, cut into very thin slices

1 cup of CJ's Korean BBQ Marinade

Place thinly sliced steak in a large bowl. Pour the sauce over the beef. Stir the beef until it is soaked in the sauce. Cover and let marinate overnight in the refrigerator.  Cook meat over a medium heat according to your liking.  Serve over rice.

Let them eat cake!

Burlap Earring Display

I was growing tired of digging through my jewelry box only to find my earrings all tangled together.  I've seen many creative ways to display earrings using burlap, so I decided to create my own.  I purchased a wood frame from the dollar store and wrapped it in twine.  I cut a piece of burlap the size of my frame and stapled it to the back with my staple gun.  Yes, it was really that simple!!!

I added a flower to my frame using a method I saw at Jones Design Company.

For my flower, I cut squares from a polyester napkin not being used. 

Then very carefully melted the edges, per Emily's instructions.

I will no longer hide my jewelry in a box!!

From Winter Brings the Spring Again

  Can you believe I woke up to more snow this morning?!  My kids were hoping for another snow day or at least a 2 hour delay, but classes started right on time!  I appreciate living in a state where I get to experience each season's change, Winter weather just makes me more anxious for Spring. 

I'm looking forward to watching the hummingbirds.

The return of the Hickory Horned Devil Caterpillar.

Butterflies.

Raindrops and roses.

I love watching the color palette while the sun sets.

The large, showy Hibiscus blooms.

If you spend enough time outdoors, eventually you will come upon a bird's nest.

The welcome signs that Spring will soon arrive...
